The 5th edition of “A Corto di Donne”, women’s short film festival, was held in Pozzuoli (Naples), Italy, at the "Multisala Sofia", on 19, 20, and 21 June 2009.

Thirty-six short films, selected out of 720 submissions from 61 countries, were selected for the competition.

“September”, by British director Esther May Campbell, was awarded as best short film in the category of Fiction.

The jury – film director Marina Spada (president), Rai television author Giuliana Catamo and film editor Giogiò Franchini – also assigned a special mention to the short films “Miente”, by Isabel de Ocampo (Spain) and “Desert Wedding”, by Alexandra Fisher (USA).

For the Documentary section, the jury – film editor and director Esmeralda Calabria (president), the editor of magazine “Noidonne” Tiziana Bartolini, Rosaria Désirée Klain, journalist and artistic director of the festival “Periferie del mondo – Periferia immaginaria” – assigned the award for best film to “Errant home”, by Nada Doumani (Lebanon – Jordan).

A special mention for the Brazilian documentary “A casa dos mortos”, by Debora Diniz and for “Mbeubes”, by Simona Risi (Italy).

“Styri”, by Ivana Sebestova (Slovakia), wins the prize as best short film for Animation. The jury was formed by Neapolitan director Simonetta Funel (president), Claudio Curcio (general manager Napoli Comicon) and Gisèle de Haan (editor and managing editor of pulp magazine Pilote).

In the Videoart section, “Windmaker”, by Kika Nicolela (Brazil), was awarded as the best short film.

The jury - multimedia artist Anna Maria Pugliese (president), Renata Caragliano (journalist) and Franz Cerami (digital artist), assigned two special mentions to the following shorts: “Conexiones”, by Lidice Abreu (Venezuela) e “Bodiless Lovers”, by Nataliya Ilchuk (Ukraine).

The direction of “A Corto di Donne” has also assigned a special prize to the best Italian short film. The awarded film was “Passo uno”, by Sicilian filmmaker Miriam Rizzo.

Special event of the fifth edition was the screening, in collaboration with Mario Savonardo – Liberi Editore, of some short films extracted from “All Human Rights For All”, looks of Italian cinema on human rights, a collective film made with the contribution of 30 directors and more than 800 professional people. The films presented were “Art. 12 – Cono d’ombra”, by Marina Spada, “Art. 20”, by Antonietta De Lillo, and “Art. 25 – La Fabbrica”, by Roberta Torre.

On the morning of June 21 a public debate on violences against women was held.

“A Corto di Donne” is an event produced by Cultural Association “Quicampiflegrei” and Coordinamento Donne Area Flegrea, under the general direction of Rossana Maccario and Aldo Mobilio, and the artistic direction of the actress Adele Pandolfi and of the film critic Giuseppe Borrone.

The fifth edition of “A Corto di Donne” aimed at being a window for the talent and creativity of women, and also an opportunity of confrontation for the professional experiences and projects of all the directors attending the festival.
